Nation-State, Islam, and Democracy: Perspective from Pakistan and Indonesia

On August 1, 2024, the MUSLIM Institute and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia hosted a seminar at the National Library, Islamabad, focusing on “Nation-State, Islam, and Democracy: Perspectives from Pakistan and Indonesia.”

Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Former Federal Law Minister, delivered a key speech on how “yesterday’s sin is today’s offence” and the significance of Quranic covenants in shaping contemporary legal and ethical frameworks. His address highlighted the influence of religious principles on modern governance.

The seminar also featured distinguished speakers including Chairman Nahdatul Ulema Indonesia Mr. Ulil Abshar Abdalla, Acting Ambassador H.E. Rahmat K. Hindiarta, Amb (R) Tariq Osman Hyder, Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Mr. Kashif Aslam, and Mr. Asif Tanveer Awan.
